World Christian Mission is organising an anniversary day service on the 21 January 2018. The event is to mark the 175th anniversary of the arrival of the British missionary, Rev Henry Townsend’s at Abeokuta on 21st January 1843.
The first church service in Nigeria was on the 5th January 1843. It took place in the compound of Chief Sodeke, who had led the Egba people to safety from their various homesteads, and away from wars that were ravaging the Yoruba country.
This year’s anniversary will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral, Ake, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.
The event is being organised in association with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Ogun State chapter.
